The meeting was requested by Britain, which holds the rotating presidency of the Security Council this month.

“The UN Security Council will meet tomorrow at 10am for a briefing on Ukraine. The Council will discuss the humanitarian consequences of Russia’s interruption of the Black Sea Grain Initiative,” Britain’s UN mission wrote on Twitter.

Russia's withdrawal from the deal has raised concerns about a global food shortage, as Ukraine is a major exporter of grain.

The UN has warned that up to 19 million people could face food insecurity if the grain exports from Ukraine are not resumed.

The Security Council meeting is expected to be held behind closed doors.

Analysts say that the meeting is a sign of the growing international concern about the humanitarian impact of Russia's war in Ukraine. (ILKHA)
