Türkiye and Saudi Arabia to strengthen economic and defense ties

The statement was issued following a visit by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, part of his three-day Gulf tour aimed at enhancing bilateral ties.

During an official session of talks between Erdogan and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah, they discussed the current regional and international situation.

Both sides highlighted the importance of accelerating cooperation in various sectors, including infrastructure, construction, engineering, defense, metallurgical industry, environmental and heritage tourism, and renewable energy. They also emphasized the role of the private sector in bolstering economic relations.

The leaders underscored the significance of maintaining stability in global energy markets and pledged to cooperate in energy fields such as petroleum, petroleum derivatives, and petrochemicals.

Climate change was another topic of discussion, and both countries pledged to uphold the principles outlined in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.

Enhancing joint cooperation in transportation and logistics services, as well as increasing the number of flights between Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, were among the priorities discussed.

In the defense and security field, both nations expressed their determination to enhance cooperation and coordination in defense and military industries to achieve mutual interests, security, and peace in the region and the world.

The leaders also expressed their desire to promote strong connections between universities in both countries.

On international and regional issues, they condemned the deliberate abuses of the Holy Quran and provided backing to UN and regional efforts in resolving the Yemeni crisis. Türkiye praised Saudi Arabia's initiatives aimed at encouraging dialogue and reconciliation between Yemeni parties and facilitating humanitarian aid delivery to Yemen.

They welcomed the reestablishment of diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran, hoping it would contribute to regional security and stability while respecting the sovereignty of states and non-interference in internal affairs.

The Palestinian issue was also discussed, and both sides denounced ongoing Israeli aggressions and provocations in occupied Palestinian territories. They emphasized the importance of achieving an all-encompassing peace and a fair resolution of the Palestinian cause based on the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international resolutions.

Regarding Sudan, they stressed the importance of a permanent ceasefire and commended regional initiatives like the Jeddah Declaration aimed at protecting civilians.

Lastly, on the Ukraine war, both sides emphasized the importance of concluding the conflict through negotiations and in compliance with international law. (ILKHA)
