The accident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. in the Sahara Desert and led to a massive fire that engulfed both vehicles, leaving all passengers trapped in the blaze.

The Algerian Civil Protection service reported the incident and stated that investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.

This devastating accident comes just two weeks after another bus crash in Bordj Bou Arréridj in northern Algeria, which claimed the lives of eight individuals and injured 17 others.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Algeria has one of the highest road traffic fatality rates in the world. In 2020, there were 10,165 road fatalities in Algeria, which translates to 27.2 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants.

The main causes of road traffic accidents in Algeria are speeding, drunk driving, and driving under the influence of drugs. Other factors that contribute to road traffic accidents in Algeria include poor road infrastructure, lack of driver education, and poor enforcement of traffic laws.

The Algerian government has taken some steps to improve road safety, such as increasing the number of traffic police officers and introducing stricter penalties for traffic violations. However, more needs to be done to reduce the number of road traffic accidents in Algeria. (ILKHA)
