The shooting occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m. local time (1445 GMT) within the Dogwood Lakes area of Hampton, a city situated in southwestern Henry County, about 45 km away from Atlanta, the capital of Georgia.

The Hampton Police Department is currently investigating the incident and searching for the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.

"DO NOT APPROACH, CALL 911 IF YOU SEE HIM," the police department posted on its Facebook page.

This year, there have been at least 377 mass shootings across the nation, leaving more than 400 people dead and more than 1,500 injured, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

Police urge public to come forward with information

Hampton Police Chief James Turner is urging anyone with information about the shooting or the whereabouts of the suspect to contact the police.

"We need the public's help to bring this suspect to justice," Turner said. "If you see him, do not approach him. Call 911 immediately."

The police department has released a photograph and provided a description of the suspect, who is believed to be driving a black 2017 GMC Acadia and is reported to be armed with a black handgun.

The shooting has shaken the community of Hampton, which is located about 45 kilometers south of Atlanta.

"This is a tragedy for our community," Turner said. "Our hearts go out to the victims and their families."

The investigation is ongoing. (ILKHA)
