The resolution, which was adopted on Wednesday, notes that the Council rejects and condemns the recent acts of desecration of the Holy Quran. It also emphasizes the importance of bringing the perpetrators of these acts to justice in accordance with international human rights.

The resolution was passed with the support of 28 countries, while 12 countries voted against it and 7 abstained. The vote took place at an extraordinary session of the HRC after the Koran burning incident in Sweden.

On June 28, a protester set fire to a Quran outside Stockholm's main mosque. The incident sparked diplomatic outrage across the Muslim world, with several countries calling for discussions on "the alarming rise in premeditated and public acts of religious hatred."

The resolution was backed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Pakistan hopes that it will send a strong message against the desecration of holy books.

The Swedish government has denounced the Quran burning as "Islamophobic," but it has also reaffirmed Sweden's "constitutionally-protected right to freedom of assembly, expression, and demonstration."

The resolution is a significant step in the fight against religious intolerance, and it sends a clear message that such acts will not be tolerated. (ILKHA)
