Biden, Erdoğan discuss NATO summit, Ukraine, and Sweden
Turkish President Joe Biden and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke on Sunday in advance of the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The two leaders discussed a range of issues, including the war in Ukraine and Sweden's application to join NATO.
Biden reiterated his support for Ukraine and said that the United States would continue to provide military and financial assistance to the country. He also expressed his desire to welcome Sweden into NATO as soon as possible.
Erdoğan said that Türkiye is committed to NATO and that it will continue to work with its allies to ensure the security of the alliance. He also said that Turkey has concerns about Sweden's support for groups that Türkiye considers to be terrorist organizations.
The two leaders agreed to meet face-to-face in Vilnius to discuss these issues further. The NATO summit is scheduled to take place on July 28-30. (ILKHA)
