Jordanian FM calls for increased cooperation to combat drug smuggling

Safadi made the remarks while virtually attending a ministerial meeting of the "International Coalition to Confront the Threat of Industrial Drugs", hosted by Washington DC. He expressed that the formation of this coalition is a crucial step in addressing the escalating danger of industrial drugs and curbing their distribution.

Safadi emphasized the significance of the new international alliance, highlighting that it enables collaborative efforts to combat the production, smuggling, and distribution of industrial drugs. He further pointed out the ongoing attempts to smuggle drugs across the Syrian border, citing the seizure of more than 65 million Captagon pills in the past two years.

Safadi stressed the global threat posed by industrial drugs and the substantial resources available to manufacturers and smugglers, emphasizing the need for a unified international approach. He also underlined Jordan's willingness to cooperate in combating the spread of drugs.

The meeting of the International Coalition to Confront the Threat of Industrial Drugs was held on July 7, 2023.

The coalition was formed in response to the growing threat of industrial drugs, which are often produced in Syria and smuggled into neighboring countries. The coalition brings together 22 countries that are committed to working together to combat the production, smuggling, and distribution of industrial drugs.

Jordan is a key member of the coalition and has been taking a number of steps to combat drug smuggling, including increasing border security, improving intelligence cooperation, and cracking down on drug traffickers. The country has also been working to raise awareness about the dangers of industrial drugs and to provide treatment and rehabilitation services for people who are addicted to these drugs.

The meeting of the International Coalition to Confront the Threat of Industrial Drugs was seen as a positive step in the fight against drug smuggling. The participants discussed a number of ways to strengthen cooperation and to improve coordination between the countries involved.
