Afghanistan appreciates SCO statement, hopes to attend upcoming meeting
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan has expressed its appreciation for the recent statement issued by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The statement referred to Afghanistan as a free, united country that is striving for peace and eradicating drugs. The SCO participants emphasized the importance of providing ongoing humanitarian aid and support for the return of refugees.
The Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan welcomed the convening of such meetings, highlighting their significance in promoting better coordination, regional security, and cooperation for development. The Ministry stated that attending such meetings is crucial for effective coordination, as Afghanistan holds a supervisory membership as its inherent right.
They stressed the need for participation in the next meeting to address issues like preventing insecurity, combating drug trafficking, facilitating humanitarian assistance, implementing infrastructure projects, and fostering mutual trust for economic connectivity in the region.
The Islamic Emirate expressed gratitude for the part of the declaration that supports a free, united, and drug-free Afghanistan. They also reiterated their commitment to continuing humanitarian aid efforts and facilitating the return of refugees, offering their cooperation in this regard.
The Ministry highlighted the diversity and inclusivity of the Islamic Emirate, stating that representatives from various language groups, generations, and positions are present. They emphasized that member states can engage in discussions with a genuine understanding of the situation.
Moreover, the Islamic Emirate expressed optimism about the favorable circumstances for the participation of the Afghanistan government in the upcoming meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization leaders, scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan. (ILKHA)
