6.2 magnitude earthquake hits Indonesia; no tsunami warning issued
On Monday, a powerful earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck off Papua province, as reported by the national geophysics agency.
Fortunately, there was no potential for a tsunami following the seismic event.
The earthquake's epicenter was located at a depth of 33 km (20.51 miles) on land. The impact was strongly felt in Jayapura, the provincial capital of Papua, according to local officials. As of now, there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
This recent earthquake comes on the heels of another seismic event that occurred on Friday, when a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck off Java. During that quake, at least 10 people were injured, and one person tragically passed away due to a suspected heart attack, according to the country's disaster mitigation agency (BNPB).
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation in Papua and conducting assessments to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the affected regions. (ILKHA)
