Turkish coast guard 84 irregular migrants pushed back by Greek authorities
The Turkish Coast Guard announced on Sunday that they had successfully rescued 84 irregular migrants who were forcibly pushed back into Turkish territorial waters by Greek authorities.
In response to a tip-off, Turkish teams swiftly deployed off the coast of Ayvacik in the northwestern Canakkale province. The Coast Guard received information regarding the presence of irregular migrants on rubber boats, leading to the rescue of 84 Afghan nationals.
Türkiye has consistently served as a significant transit point for irregular migrants seeking to enter Europe and establish new lives, particularly those fleeing from conflict and persecution.
Numerous reports from human rights organizations and media outlets have shed light on the recurring issue of illegal pushbacks and other human rights violations committed by Greek authorities.
Türkiye, alongside global rights groups, has vehemently condemned Greece's unlawful practice of forcibly pushing back irregular migrants, stressing that it not only disregards humanitarian values but also violates international law. Such actions put the lives of vulnerable migrants, including women and children, at great risk. (ILKHA)
