This joint initiative between BCF and the Red Crescent Society of the United Arab Emirates aims to support the disadvantaged during the Feast of Sacrifice, a significant Islamic event involving the sacrifice of thousands of livestock.

According to Stav Aso, head of BCF's Erbil Office, more than 100 cattle and 33 sheep will be slaughtered in the Kurdistan Region, ensuring that each family receives a minimum of 2kg of donated meat. The BCF expects a total of 20,000 families to benefit from this generous initiative. Furthermore, the BCF is extending its support to northeastern Syria (Rojava) by sacrificing 200 sheep, with the meat being distributed in Afrin, a Kurdish-majority city heavily impacted by recent earthquakes.

During a visit to one of the slaughterhouses, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the charitable contributions of the BCF. As a humanitarian organization founded in 2005, the BCF is well-known for its active efforts in providing aid to internally displaced persons, refugees, and vulnerable children in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and northern Syria.

The Eid Al Adha celebrations commenced on Wednesday and will continue until Saturday, July 1, in the Kurdistan Region. The sacrificial ritual holds great significance, symbolizing the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

Muslims regard the act of sacrificing livestock during Eid Al Adha as profoundly meaningful. It commemorates the story of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) being tested by God's command to sacrifice his son, Ismail (Ishmael). Despite facing temptations from the devil, Prophet Ibrahim displayed unwavering devotion to God. Ultimately, at the last moment, Angel Gabriel replaced Ismail with a ram. This act of sacrifice is believed to bring Muslims closer to God, serving as a testament to their obedience and faith. (ILKHA)
