The delegations will be led by Ambassador Mehmet Kemal Bozay, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs of Türkiye, and Pascual Navarro, the Secretary of State for the European Union at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation of Spain.

The purpose of the consultations, as stated by the Ministry, is to discuss bilateral relations between Türkiye and Spain, as well as Türkiye's relations with the European Union in all their dimensions. These discussions will be particularly significant in light of Spain assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, starting from July 1, 2023. The meetings will provide an opportunity to exchange views on current regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The upcoming talks reflect the ongoing diplomatic efforts of Türkiye to engage with its European partners and strengthen relations within the framework of the EU. The discussions will cover various aspects of the bilateral relationship and serve as a platform for constructive dialogue on shared challenges and opportunities.

As Spain prepares to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, these consultations hold particular significance in shaping the future direction of EU-Türkiye relations. Both countries will have the opportunity to express their perspectives and explore avenues for cooperation on a range of issues of mutual concern.

The political consultations in Madrid represent another step towards fostering understanding and collaboration between Türkiye and Spain, contributing to the broader goal of enhancing diplomatic ties within the European context. (ILKHA)
