Road motor vehicle registrations surge by 24.5% in Türkiye

Analyzing the vehicle registrations for May, motorcycles accounted for the largest share at 45.4%, followed by cars at 38.8%, small trucks at 8.7%, tractors at 4.4%, trucks at 2.0%, minibuses at 0.4%, buses at 0.2%, and special purpose vehicles at 0.1%.

Compared to the previous month, road motor vehicle registrations experienced substantial growth in various categories. Special purpose vehicles saw an impressive surge of 263.4%, followed by tractors at 29.5%, cars at 28.2%, motorcycles at 25.1%, trucks at 13.7%, small trucks at 9.7%, and minibuses at 4.9%. However, registrations for buses witnessed a decline of 19.8%.

Furthermore, in comparison to the same month of the previous year, road motor vehicle registrations soared by 98.3%. Notably, special purpose vehicles experienced the highest increase at 189.3%, followed by minibuses at 125.5%, motorcycles at 125.0%, trucks at 101.7%, cars at 86.2%, buses at 84.2%, small trucks at 68.3%, and tractors at 50.5%.

By the end of May, the total number of registered road motor vehicles in Türkiye reached an impressive 27,334,424. Cars accounted for the majority at 53.5%, followed by motorcycles at 16.4%, small trucks at 16.0%, tractors at 7.8%, trucks at 3.4%, minibuses at 1.8%, buses at 0.8%, and special purpose vehicles at 0.3%.

The report also highlights that 1,104,572 road motor vehicles were handed over in May, with cars representing the largest share at 67.2%, followed by small trucks at 15.6%, motorcycles at 10.7%, tractors at 2.8%, trucks at 1.8%, minibuses at 1.4%, buses at 0.3%, and special purpose vehicles at 0.2%.

In terms of new car registrations, 86,816 cars were registered in May. The distribution of trademarks for these newly registered cars revealed that Fiat led with 13.9%, followed by Renault at 12.3%, Volkswagen at 10.6%, Peugeot at 7.0%, and Opel at 6.9%, among others.

Analyzing the period from January to May, the number of registered vehicles increased by 83.0% compared to the same period last year, reaching 863,955. Additionally, the number of withdrawn road motor vehicles decreased by 24.9% to 12,055, resulting in a net increase of 851,900 registered motor vehicles during this period.

Regarding the fuel types used in registered cars, gasoline-fueled cars dominated at 66.8%, followed by diesel-fueled cars at 20.1%, hybrid cars at 8.6%, electric cars at 2.8%, and LPG-fueled cars at 1.7%.

In terms of engine sizes, the most frequent engine size for registered cars in the January-May period was 1300 or less, accounting for 35.8% of registrations. Grey was the most common car color at 32.3%, followed by white at 32.2%.

These statistics indicate a strong and growing automotive industry in Türkiye, reflecting positive trends in vehicle ownership and preferences among the Turkish population. (ILKHA)
