Earthquake in France causes power outage and building damage
According to Christophe Bechu, the Minister of Ecological Transition, the earthquake measuring 5.8 magnitude in France ranks among the most powerful ever recorded in metropolitan France.
The impact of the earthquake was particularly felt in the Deux-Sevres and Charente-Maritime regions, where numerous buildings suffered damage. As a precautionary measure, residents of La Laigne village, located in Charente-Maritime, were evacuated to ensure their safety.
The aftermath of the earthquake revealed that a fallen power line was responsible for leaving 1,100 homes without electricity. This disruption added to the challenges faced by affected residents in the wake of the natural disaster.
Furthermore, the region experienced additional seismic activity in the form of aftershocks, measuring magnitudes of 5 and 4, occurring during the morning hours. These aftershocks further heightened concerns and posed potential risks to the already affected areas.
Authorities and emergency response teams are actively working to assess the overall impact of the earthquake, provide assistance to affected individuals, and restore power to the affected households. The situation is being closely monitored as efforts are made to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected communities. (ILKHA)
