Russia’s Putin to visit Türkiye, first NATO country visit since Ukraine conflict

Putin has largely refrained from international travel since the onset of the conflict.

The statement quoted Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yury Ushakov, who confirmed that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan extended an invitation to Putin. While the visit has been agreed upon, specific dates for the visit have yet to be determined.

Re-elected for another five-year term last month, Erdogan has maintained diplomatic ties with both Moscow and Kyiv throughout the Ukrainian conflict. Notably, Turkey has chosen not to join its Western allies in imposing economic sanctions on Russia. However, Türkiye has provided arms to Ukraine and emphasized the importance of respecting Ukraine's sovereignty.

Putin's upcoming visit to Türkiye underscores the evolving dynamics in the region and the diplomatic efforts to engage in discussions and foster relations between nations amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. (ILKHA)
