The doctors’ union revealed that the violent power struggle between the regular army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has claimed the lives of at least 958 civilians. However, the union cautioned that this number does not include the "large number of victims" in western Sudan.

In addition to the fatalities, the medics reported that more than 4,746 civilians have sustained injuries since the conflict erupted on April 15. It is worth noting that these figures may be lower than the actual count, as many deaths and injuries in Khartoum and other areas have not been accounted for.

The doctors emphasized that movement restrictions imposed amidst the violence have prevented numerous injured individuals from reaching hospitals for urgent medical care.

The statement released by the doctors shed light on the dire situation in the city of Al Geneina in West Darfur, where a significant number of civilian lives, including those of children, women, and the elderly, have been lost. Describing the situation as "catastrophic," the doctors highlighted that the victims in West Darfur have not been included in the official tally. The city is currently under siege, with all hospitals out of service and communication completely cut off.
