Türkiye's overall export unit value index shows 1.1% increase in April

During the same period, the index for food, beverages, and tobacco, as well as manufactured goods (excluding food, beverages, and tobacco), witnessed respective increases of 7.5% and 3.4%. However, the index for crude materials (excluding fuels) and fuels recorded decreases of 10.8% and 24.3%, respectively.

On the other hand, the overall export volume index declined by 18.1% in April compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. In comparison to April 2022, while the index for fuels saw a modest increase of 0.8%, the indexes for food, beverages, and tobacco, crude materials (excluding fuels), and manufactured goods (excluding food, beverages, and tobacco) experienced declines of 13.5%, 6.6%, and 21.2%, respectively.

Furthermore, the overall import unit value index in April showed a significant decrease of 16.7% compared to the same month of the previous year. The indexes for food, beverages, and tobacco, crude materials (excluding fuels), fuels, and manufactured goods (excluding food, beverages, and tobacco) saw respective declines of 9.6%, 19.6%, 44.4%, and 5.2%.

However, there was positive news in terms of the overall import volume index, which exhibited a growth of 14.3% in April compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. Although the index for crude materials (excluding fuels) decreased by 14.4%, the indexes for food, beverages, and tobacco, fuels, and manufactured goods (excluding food, beverages, and tobacco) recorded increases of 30.5%, 14.5%, and 13.9%, respectively.

In terms of adjusted export and import volume indexes, the calendar and seasonally adjusted export volume index in April experienced a minor increase of 0.1% compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, the calendar and seasonally adjusted import volume index showed a more substantial growth of 4.8% during the same period.

Lastly, the terms of trade, which measures the ratio of export unit value index to import unit value index, stood at 88.7 in April 2023. This marked an increase of 15.6 points compared to April 2022 when the terms of trade was 73.1. The latest data indicates positive developments in Türkiye's export and import sectors, contributing to the country's overall trade performance. (ILKHA)
