The two-week-long exercise brings together a staggering 10,000 personnel and 250 aircraft from 25 participating nations.

Led by Germany, the exercise aims to bolster the training and readiness of NATO air forces, ensuring a collective response capability. With a strong focus on defending Allied territories, "Air Defender" sends a clear message that NATO stands ready to safeguard every inch of its member countries' territory.

NATO spokesperson Oana Lungescu highlighted the significance of the exercise, stating that it reflects the alliance's determination to address the current security crisis and protect nations and their citizens. Lungescu expressed gratitude to Germany for hosting this groundbreaking exercise, which underscores the robust transatlantic bond between Europe and North America. Notably, the participation of around 100 aircraft from the United States further solidifies this alliance.

Over the next two weeks, the majority of the aircraft will be stationed at various German air bases, while training missions will primarily take place over the North Sea, the Baltic Sea, and Southern Germany. These drills are designed to enhance interoperability and preparedness, equipping NATO air forces to effectively counter potential threats from aircraft, drones, and missiles targeting cities and critical infrastructure.

In addition to the air-focused exercises, "Air Defender" will feature training events dedicated to supporting ground troops and executing evacuation missions, further bolstering NATO's comprehensive defense capabilities.

Scheduled to run until June 23, the exercise underscores NATO's unwavering commitment to collective defense and its determination to confront evolving security challenges head-on. (ILKHA)
