The evacuation operation included 1,961 Turkish citizens and 421 individuals from 24 different countries. The Turkish Foreign Ministry expressed gratitude to all the institutions involved in supporting the evacuation efforts and reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of their citizens.

The conflict, which initially erupted in Khartoum and subsequently spread to other cities in Sudan, has had devastating consequences for civilians. Reports indicate a significant number of casualties among non-combatants and widespread destruction of homes, critical infrastructure, and essential facilities like hospitals and markets. The situation has further deteriorated in West Darfur, with intercommunal clashes intensifying and posing a severe threat to the security and livelihoods of local communities.

The violent conflict has also had a detrimental impact on humanitarian operations in the region. Frequent looting of humanitarian facilities and vehicles, along with targeted attacks on humanitarian workers, have severely disrupted relief efforts. Despite a three-day ceasefire initially put in place to facilitate the safe evacuation of foreign nationals and civilians, the extension of the ceasefire was not honored, resulting in the resumption of hostilities on April 29.

However, a significant development took place on May 20 when representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) signed an Agreement on a Short-Term Ceasefire and Humanitarian Arrangements. The agreement, expected to take effect within 48 hours of signing, aims to establish a seven-day ceasefire with the potential for extension through mutual agreement between the conflicting parties.

The international community closely monitors the situation in Sudan, urging all parties involved to honor the ceasefire agreement and prioritize the safety and well-being of civilians. Efforts are underway to restore stability, provide humanitarian assistance, and create conditions for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, which has caused immense suffering to the Sudanese people.

As the evacuation efforts continue, Türkiye remains dedicated to supporting its citizens and collaborating with international partners to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and foster a path towards lasting peace and stability in the region. (ILKHA)
