Acknowledging the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on visa evaluation processes, Hipper noted that delays have occurred due to the situation. She explained: “Demand is now on the rise, which can occasionally impact visa procedures. Nevertheless, I would like to emphasize that this is not an issue specific to Türkiye.”

Responding to queries about potential measures taken by the EU to address the problem, Hipper highlighted that visa evaluations are consistently conducted on an individual basis and fall under the responsibility and jurisdiction of member countries.

According to recent statistics, the rate of Schengen visa applications rejected through Turkish missions stood at 15% in 2022. However, this year, the rejection rate has surged to approximately 50%.

The increasing number of rejections indicates a broader trend affecting visa applications from Türkiye, and the EU Commission aims to ensure transparency and fairness in the evaluation process, while recognizing the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic. (ILKHA)
