Remembering the martyrdom of Aytaç Baran: A dedicated advocate for Islam
Aytaç Baran, a fervent supporter of the Islamic cause, is honored on the 8th anniversary of his martyrdom at the hands of PKK militants.
Baran, who served as the President of Yeni İhya-Der (New Revival Association) and was a member of HÜDA PAR (Free Cause Party), was tragically martyred in an armed attack in Diyarbakır on June 9, 2015.
Aytaç Baran, often likened to the illustrious Mus'ab ibn Umayr, one of the Prophet Muhammed’s companions, dedicated himself tirelessly to Islamic education. He formed study circles composed of young people, imparting valuable teachings and inspiring them to carry on his legacy after his martyrdom. His selfless commitment and unwavering resolve continue to fuel their determination in the noble struggle for their cause.
Baran's primary objective was to shield young people from falling prey to the influence of enemies of Islam and their allies, ensuring the preservation of their faith and unity within their ranks. He formed close-knit circles of youth around him, his infectious smile leaving an indelible mark on their faces.
To his fellow comrades, Aytaç Baran would say, 'As long as we have eyes that can open and close, if this holy Islamic cause breaks down and becomes weak in the face of the enemy's blows—God forbid—we will have no excuse to defend ourselves in the presence of Allah.' In the face of adversity, he exemplified unwavering determination, resilience, and sacrifice, shedding his pure blood to strengthen the cause he held dear.
Known for his pleasant demeanor and radiant smile, Aytaç Baran always attracted a multitude of young followers. He never harmed anyone, using his infectious smile as a means to engrave Islam in the hearts of all who crossed his path. He treated children as their elder brother, engaging in their games and emphasizing the importance of instilling Islamic morals and the teachings of the Qur'an. His fear was that without guidance, compassion, and mercy, these innocent souls might be led astray into the arms of Islam's adversaries.
Baran's humanitarian aid efforts in the Şehitlik and Benusen neighborhoods earned him admiration from the local populace and shopkeepers. His selfless actions left a lasting impact in these suburban areas, where he was cherished for his commitment to serving others.
During celebrations of the Birth of the Prophet, organized by the Lovers of the Prophet Platform, Aytaç Baran's melodious voice resonated as he recited the Qur'an. His heartfelt nasheed titled 'Our Leader is the Prophet' found a special place in the hearts of the attendees, establishing a throne of love and devotion.
Baran's activities posed a threat to the nefarious organization that sought to exploit young individuals for its own agenda. The ethical upbringing and strong morals instilled in the youth under Baran's guidance unsettled this organization. Consequently, they implemented a sinister plan to eliminate him. Security cameras captured the moment of the attack, which occurred shortly after the June 7, 2015 General Elections. One of the suspected assassins was apprehended, while the second suspect, Sezgin Demirok, was killed in a clash with the police in Yenişehir in December 2015.
During the subsequent trial, the sole defendant, 22-year-old Diyadin Gümüş, was acquitted of the charges of 'intentional killing' and 'membership in the PKK terrorist organization.' The assassination of someone like Aytaç Baran, a proponent of peace, stands as a stark testament to the true intentions of those hiding behind the guise of peace.
The news of Aytaç Baran's martyrdom deeply saddened not only his comrades in the cause but also his loved ones, who continue to carry his memory in their hearts.
Following the retrieval of Baran's body from the Selahattin Eyyubi State Hospital Morgue, a solemn procession of vehicles accompanied his remains to the Selahattin Avşar Mosque, located near the Yeni İhya Der building where he served. After the funeral prayer, his body was laid to rest in the Yeniköy Cemetery, situated in the Bağlar district. The burial ceremony was attended by thousands of individuals, who expressed their respect and bid farewell with heartfelt takbirs (Allahu Akbar) and salutations.
Aytaç Baran's unwavering dedication and sacrifice continue to inspire countless individuals in their pursuit of upholding the noble principles of Islam. His memory lives on, serving as a guiding light for those who remain steadfast in their commitment to the cause. (ILKHA)
