Turkish industrial production declines by 1.2% annually
According to a statement released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on Friday, Turkey's industrial production has witnessed a year-on-year decline of 1.2%.
The data reflects the state of the country's industrial sector and provides insights into the performance of its subsectors.
When examining the subsectors of the industry, it was revealed that the mining and quarrying index experienced a significant decrease of 12.2%. On the other hand, the manufacturing index remained unchanged, while the electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply index saw a decline of 4.3% in April 2023, compared to the same month of the previous year.
In addition to the annual decline, there was also a monthly decrease of 0.9% in industrial production. Looking at the subsectors individually, the mining and quarrying index decreased by 0.9%, and the manufacturing index experienced a decline of 1.0%. However, there was a slight increase of 0.5% in the electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply index in April 2023, compared to the previous month.
These figures indicate the challenges faced by Turkey's industrial sector, particularly in mining and quarrying, as well as the manufacturing subsector. The decrease in industrial production on an annual and monthly basis reflects the current economic climate and highlights areas that require attention and potential improvement.
The Turkish government and relevant stakeholders may consider analyzing the factors contributing to the decline in order to formulate strategies and policies aimed at boosting industrial production. Such initiatives could help address the challenges faced by the mining and quarrying subsector and revitalize the manufacturing sector. (ILKHA)
