Türkiye: 3.5-magnitude earthquake strikes Marmara Sea
In a statement by Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) Presidency, it has been confirmed that a 3.5-magnitude earthquake occurred in the Gulf of Gemlik, located in the Sea of Marmara.
The tremor, originating approximately 3.78 kilometers from Bursa's Gemlik district, was recorded at a depth of 5.14 kilometers.
The seismic event, while relatively minor in magnitude, created a momentary disturbance in the region. Fortunately, no casualties or significant damage have been reported so far.
The earthquake's epicenter in the Gemlik Gulf, which is situated along the western coast of Turkey, has caught the attention of local authorities and geologists. Seismic activities in the Sea of Marmara are always closely monitored due to its proximity to heavily populated areas.
Earthquakes, though common in Turkey due to its location along several active fault lines, can vary in intensity. Authorities continuously work to enhance their preparedness and response mechanisms to minimize the potential impact of such natural phenomena. (ILKHA)
