Ambassador Şen highlighted the significant progress made towards normalization between the two countries, expressing that trust has been restored and a desire for cooperation exists in various fields.

Şen acknowledged the obstacles that previously hindered relations but stated that Türkiye-Egypt relations have now returned to a normal state. He emphasized the potential for official cooperation in areas such as the economy, tourism, and culture, which can greatly benefit both nations. The current situation is characterized by a high level of trust and respect.

Economic relations between Türkiye and Egypt have been a priority in the past decade, with efforts made to insulate them from political dynamics. Şen projected that with the complete recovery of diplomatic relations, there is a possibility for further economic cooperation. He cited the potential for the annual trade volume to increase from $9.7 billion to $20 billion in the medium term. Notably, Türkiye is Egypt's largest export market, and Turkish companies are the primary purchasers of Egyptian gas.

Ambassador Şen also discussed the tourism sector, anticipating a significant rise in the number of Turkish tourists visiting Egypt's popular cities, such as Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh, and Aswan. This expectation stems from the Egyptian government's facilitation of visa procedures for Turkish citizens. Şen highlighted Turkish investments in Egypt, totaling approximately $2.5 billion, with Turkish textile companies being the leading exporters in the country.

Şen stressed that economic relations are always protected for the benefit of both nations' people, unaffected by political circumstances. He expressed the desire to reactivate Ro-Ro transportation services between Mersin and Alexandria, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives remaining independent of political issues.

Regarding a potential meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Egyptian President Abdulfettah es-Sisi, Ambassador Şen indicated that the meeting could take place within the next 3-6 months. He described President Sisi's congratulatory message to President Erdoğan and their friendly phone call as a strong political desire to advance bilateral relations. The decision to elevate diplomatic relations to the ambassadorial level signals an upcoming summit between the two leaders, potentially happening in Ankara or Cairo by the end of the year.

On the matter of the demarcation of maritime jurisdiction, Ambassador Şen expressed openness to cooperation, emphasizing that it is not a matter of competition. He highlighted the absence of fundamental disagreements between Egypt and Türkiye on this issue and anticipated progress through future studies. (ILKHA)
