Australian police kill 95-year-old woman with stun gun
An incident in Australia has caused widespread outrage as a 95-year-old woman passed away a week after being shot with a stun gun by a police officer in a nursing home.
The elderly woman, identified as Clare Nowland, suffered from dementia and had been hospitalized since she fell and fractured her skull after the officer, Constable Kristian White, deployed the stun gun on May 17.
The tragic event has sparked a national discussion about the appropriate use of stun guns by law enforcement, particularly when dealing with elderly individuals who may have cognitive impairments.
Constable White is now facing charges including recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault.
It is expected that the charges will be upgraded following Nowland's death.
The incident has also raised questions about the competence of aged care staff and their ability to handle such situations. (ILKHA)
