Türkiye's unemployment rate drops to 9.9% in Q1
Seasonally adjusted unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over decreased by 62 thousand to 3 million 483 thousand persons in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter, the Turkish Statistical Institute said on Wednesday.
Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate occurred as 9.9% with 0.3 percentage point decrease. Unemployment rate was estimated 8.2% for men and 13.4% for women.
Seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 48.4%
The number of seasonally adjusted employed persons increased by 195 thousand to 31 million 558 thousand persons in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter. Seasonally adjusted employment rate occurred as 48.4% with 0.2 percentage point increase. In addition, this rate was 66.0% for men, 31.2% for women.
Seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate realized as 53.7%
The seasonally adjusted labor force increased by 132 thousand persons to 35 million 40 thousand persons in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter and the seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate was 53.7% without any change. Labor force participation rate was estimated 71.8% for men and 36.0% for women.
Seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate was 19.9%
Seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 19.9% with 0.9 percentage point increase compared to the previous quarter. Unemployment rate in this age group estimated as 15.6% for men and 27.6% for women.
57.4% of seasonally adjusted employment was in the services sector
In the first quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter, while the number of seasonally adjusted agricultural employment decreased by 115 thousand persons, industry increased by 51 thousand persons, construction increased by 60 thousand persons and services increased by 198 thousand persons.
According to the distribution of employment by sector; 14.9% was employed in agriculture, 21.5% was employed in industry, 6.3% was employed in construction and 57.4% was employed in services.
Seasonally and calendar adjusted average weekly actual working hours was 44.7
Seasonally and calendar adjusted average weekly actual working hours of persons at work during the reference period increased by 0.7 hours and estimated 44.7 hours compared to the previous quarter in the first quarter of 2023.
Seasonally adjusted composite measure of labor underutilization rate realized as 22.4%
The rate of composite measure of labor underutilization consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force and unemployment was 22.4% with increase of 1.6 percentage points in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter. While combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment realized as 15.5%, combined rate of unemployment and potential labor force realized as 17.3%. (ILKHA)
