Over 700,000 Sudanese displaced as violence continues in factional conflict
The United Nations refugee agency has stated that over 700,000 Sudanese individuals have been displaced from their homes due to violent conflict between two armed factions fighting for control of the northern African nation.
This updated number, which was released on Tuesday by the UN International Organization for Migration, is more than double the figure of 334,000 that the agency reported last week.
Additionally, the IOM has reported that 100,000 more Sudanese have fled the country.
The conflict, which began on April 15th between the forces of army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy turned rival Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who heads the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has led to the deaths of at least 750 individuals and the injury of thousands more, throwing Sudan into chaos.
