The arrest took place as Khan entered the court compound, where he was apprehended by paramilitary forces using armored vehicles.

In response to his arrest, Khan's political party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has called for protests, resulting in violent incidents in several cities, including Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar.

“Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, has been arrested in a baseless case. Imran Khan was subjected to violence and there was a rampage in the Islamabad High Court. We will raise our voices against this injustice and vigorously protest against the arrest of our leader,” PTI lawmaker Barrister Maleeka Bokhari said in a statement.

According to a statement from the inspector-general of Punjab police, Khan's arrest was ordered due to allegations of "corruption and corrupt practices."

The case revolves around accusations concerning the allocation of land within the Al-Qadir Trust, which Khan and his spouse own.

Khan, currently held at an undisclosed location, strongly denies any wrongdoing.

After being ousted from power through a parliamentary no-confidence vote the previous year, the 72-year-old Khan has assumed the role of leading a widely supported movement against the current government led by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Khan asserts that the government, in collaboration with the military, conspired to remove him from office.

As a result of numerous legal cases filed against him, multiple arrest warrants have been issued, leading to clashes between his supporters and the authorities.

Khan vehemently denies the various corruption allegations against him during his time in office, contending that they are politically motivated. (ILKHA)
