Over 1.5 million Turkish citizens abroad participate in voting for upcoming elections
The Turkish Supreme Election Board (YSK) has reported that over 1.5 million Turkish citizens residing abroad have participated in the voting process for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for May 14.
The voting procedure began on April 27 at customs checkpoints and foreign representative offices, with over 1.514 million voters already having exercised their right to vote as of Sunday.
Voters will be able to cast their ballots at overseas representations until May 9 and at customs until 5:00 p.m. local time on May 14.
To accommodate the significant turnout, the YSK has decided to increase the number of ballot boxes at 19 locations in Europe. However, ballot boxes planned for nine locations in Germany have been canceled.
The presidential ballot will include four candidates, including the incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, while the parliamentary elections will witness the participation of 24 political parties and 151 independent candidates competing for seats in the 600-member Turkish parliament.
Voting has already concluded in some countries, as there is a total of approximately 3.41 million eligible Turkish citizens residing abroad. (ILKHA)
