Magnitude 4.7 earthquake strikes southern Türkiye

The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency of Turkey reported that the quake occurred at 11:36 TSI at a depth of 7.88 km, with the epicenter located at 36.422 degrees north latitude and 36.309 degrees east longitude.

The tremor was felt in nearby provinces, including Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Adana, Gazianatep and Kilis.

There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties after the earthquake.

In February of this year, a much more severe earthquake measuring 7.8 magnitude hit southern Turkey and northern Syria, resulting in over 50,000 deaths, 100,000 injuries, and the displacement of 13.5 million people and damage to 4 million buildings.

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change inspected 763,000 buildings for damage, and 41,791 buildings across ten provinces of Turkey were heavily damaged or destroyed, rendering around 150,000 people homeless.

During the February earthquake, thousands of people were trapped under collapsed buildings. (ILKHA)
