The violence is between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary group, Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and has been ongoing for several weeks.

“The situation in Sudan is teetering toward catastrophe, and children are increasingly caught in the crossfire. While we are unable to confirm estimates due to the intensity of the violence, UNICEF has received reports that 190 children have been killed and another 1,700 injured in Sudan since conflict erupted almost three weeks ago,” UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said in a statement.

The situation is worsening, and children are increasingly becoming caught in the conflict. Many families are fleeing to safety in Sudan and other neighboring countries. Humanitarian workers have also been attacked, and UNICEF facilities and supplies have been looted or destroyed.

The agency's ability to provide essential health, nutrition, water, and sanitation services to children across the country is being undermined.

UNICEF also called on the warring parties to adhere to international law, ensuring that humanitarian actors can safely operate on the ground to support civilians in need.

Recent fighting has claimed the lives of 550 people, injured over 5,000, and caused over 100,000 residents to flee to neighboring countries. (ILKHA)
