The asylum seekers were found in rubber boats and taken to the local migration office for processing.

The Turkish Coast Guard confirmed that the Greek Coast Guard had pushed the boat carrying the migrants back into Turkish waters.

Türkiye has been a destination, source, and transit point for refugees and migrants throughout history. Recent regional events have led to a significant increase in people seeking refuge from conflict, poverty, and disasters.

Currently, the country is hosting more than 4 million refugees and asylum-seekers, including over 3.7 million Syrians and over 330,000 individuals from other countries seeking international protection.

According to official reports, the Turkish coast guard has intercepted more than 285,000 irregular migrants in 2022, an increase from 162,000 in the previous year. (ILKHA)
