Türkiye closes airspace to Armenian flights in response to monument controversy
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that Turkey has banned Armenian flights transiting through its airspace to a third destination in response to the recent inauguration of a controversial monument in Yerevan.
The monument honors those involved in an assassination plot against Ottoman Turkish officials whom Armenia accuses of committing mass killings of ethnic Armenians during World War One, which Yerevan considers a genocide.
However, Ankara denies these accusations. Cavusoglu said in an interview with NTV that Turkey would take additional measures if the monument is not removed. (ILKHA)
