Uganda's State Minister for Labour shot dead by bodyguard
The state minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Col (rtd) Charles Okello Engola, was fatally shot by his bodyguard at his residence in Kyanja, a Kampala suburb.
The incident was confirmed by the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire, while the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, announced the minister's death during the morning plenary session.
The shooter reportedly shot himself after the incident. The crime scene has been cordoned off by security personnel and government officials, including Gender Minister Betty Amongi, have arrived at Engola's home.
According to an eyewitness, the bodyguard allegedly cited financial issues, including unpaid wages and the inability to provide for his family, as the motive for the shooting. (ILKHA)
