Turkish evacuation plane shot at during landing in Sudan
Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Friday opened fire on a Turkish evacuation plane while it was landing at Wadi Seyidna airport near Khartoum.
Despite the dangerous incident, the plane successfully landed at approximately 7:25am local time and is now undergoing repairs as part of the ongoing international evacuation efforts, according to a statement from the Turkish Defense Ministry.
The Sudanese army has accused rebel forces of attempting to obstruct the evacuation process through violent means, even as a tenuous ceasefire was extended for another 72 hours.
This marks the first reported instance of a foreign evacuation plane sustaining damage during the current airlift of foreigners from conflict-ridden Sudan. (ILKHA)
