Magnitude 7.2 earthquake strikes off New Zealand
A 7.2 magnitude earthquake has struck off the northeast coast of New Zealand, prompting authorities to inform residents that no tsunami alert was active.
The quake was recorded at a depth of 78km, near the Kermadec Islands Region, according to the Geoscience Australia.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) stated that there was no risk of a tsunami in New Zealand.
The agency's initial assessment indicates that the earthquake is unlikely to pose a threat to the country.
The Bureau of Meteorology also confirmed that Australia was not at risk of a tsunami. (ILKHA)
