Magnitude 3.6 aftershock jolts eastern Türkiye
A magnitude 3.6 aftershock struck the Doğanşehir district of Türkiye’s eastern Malatya on Wednesday more than two months after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck the region.
According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, the earthquake occurred at 07:57 TSI, with a latitude of 38.088 degrees north, a longitude of 37.86 degrees east, and a depth of 6.96 km.
The earthquake caused significant damage and casualties when it struck on February 6, with over 50,000 deaths and 108,000 people injured across ten of the most affected provinces in Türkiye, as well as adjacent provinces of Elazığ and Batman.
The earthquake also affected 13.5 million people and 4 million buildings, leaving thousands trapped under rubble when buildings collapsed.
The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change conducted damage inspections for 763,000 buildings, with at least 41,791 buildings in 10 Turkish provinces being heavily damaged or destroyed, and about 150,000 people left homeless. (ILKHA)
