EU Ambassador in Sudan was assaulted in his own residency
The European Union's ambassador to Sudan was assaulted in his residence, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said in a statement on Twitter.
Borrell condemned the attack, emphasizing that it violates the Vienna Convention and that the security of diplomatic premises and staff is the primary responsibility of Sudanese authorities and an obligation under international law.
The situation in Sudan has intensified due to disagreements between the army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who heads the Sovereign Council, and his deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, who is also the head of the Rapid Support Forces.
Recent clashes in the cities of Merowa and Khartoum have led to over a hundred civilian deaths, as per the Sudan Doctors Committee, while the World Health Organization reports over 1,000 casualties. (ILKHA)
