Magnitude 4.5 earthquake hits Egypt's Hurghada
An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 occurred 37 kilometers northeast of Hurghada, a city on the Red Sea in Egypt, early on Saturday.
The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) confirmed that the earthquake happened at 1:28 AM at a depth of 23 kilometers.
According to NRIAG, there have been no reports of damage or casualties.
Egypt typically experiences few earthquakes per year, and the country has not had a major earthquake since 1992, when a magnitude 5.6 earthquake killed over 500 people and injured thousands more.
The occurrence of earthquakes is related to the movement of tectonic plates, and the frequency and severity of earthquakes can vary depending on the geological characteristics of a given region. (ILKHA)
