Truck carrying 40000 pounds of toxic soil crashes in United States
A truck that was carrying 40,000 pounds of contaminated soil from East Palestine, Ohio overturned on Monday.
Roughly half of the soil that was on the truck ended up spilling along the highway, according to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
“The vehicle's 74-year-old driver, Phillip Falck, went off the right side of the road, hit a ditch and utility pole and overturned,” the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
About half of the soil onboard ended up spilling out of the truck, local reports said.
A train derailment occurred on February 3 when 38 cars of a Norfolk Southern freight train carrying hazardous materials derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, United States.
Several railcars burned for more than two days, with emergency crews then conducting a controlled burn of several railcars which released hydrogen chloride and phosgene into the air.
As a result, residents within a 1-mile (1.6-kilometer) radius were evacuated, and an emergency response was initiated from agencies in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. (ILKHA)
