More than 730K people immigrated to Türkiye in 2021—statistical agency

While 51.9% of this population were males, 48.1% were females. When the immigrant population was examined by citizenship, 124 thousand 269 persons were Turkish citizens and 615 thousand 95 persons were foreign nationals.

287 thousand 651 people emigrated from Türkiye

The number of emigrants decreased by 31.6% compared to the previous year and became 287 thousand 651 people in 2021. While 55.7% of this population were males, 44.3% were females. When emigrant population was examined by citizenship, 103 thousand 613 persons were Turkish citizens and 184 thousand 38 persons were foreign nationals.

The largest migrant population was in the 20-24 and 25-29 age groups

In 2021, it was seen that 12.3% of the immigrant population were in the 20-24 age group. This age group was followed by 25-29 age group with 12.1% and 30-34 age group with 10.7%, respectively. When the age distribution of emigrant population was analyzed, it was seen that 14.4% of them were in the 25-29 age group. This age group was followed by 30-34 age group with 12.3% and 20-24 age group with 11.6%.

The province with the highest number of immigrants and emigrants was İstanbul

When immigrant population in 2021 were analyzed by provinces, it was seen that İstanbul had the largest immigrant population with the proportion of 47.8%. İstanbul was followed by Antalya with 8.2%, Ankara with 6.7%, Bursa with 2.7% and Mersin with 2.4%, respectively.

When the emigrants were analyzed by provinces, it was seen that İstanbul had the largest emigrant population with the proportion of 35.2%. İstanbul was followed by Ankara with 11.9%, Antalya with 6.2%, İzmir with 3.7% and Bursa with 2.7%, respectively.

12.1% of foreign immigrants were comprised of Iraqi citizens

Iraqi citizens took the first place in the foreign immigrant population in 2021 with 12.1%. This group was followed by citizens of Iran with 10.9%, Uzbekistan with 6.5%, Syria with 6% and Afghanistan with 5.5%, respectively.
