Turkish first lady Erdoğan meets with UN Secretary-General Guterres
First Lady Emine Erdoğan, who is in New York to attend a special session on the International Day of Zero Waste at the United Nations, met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Guterres praised the Zero Waste Project and thanked the first lady for her contributions to the fight against climate change.
“At the national level, countries should take inspiration from other examples like Türkiye’s Zero Waste project spearheaded by the First Lady,” Guterres said.
The meeting was also attended by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, and Türkiye's Permanent Representative to the UN, Sedat Onal.
Zero Waste Project which was initiated in 2017 under the auspices of Emine Erdoğan, aims to contain waste under sustainable development principles, leaving a clean Turkey and a liveable world to future generations.
The project added $2.3 billion to the Turkish economy due to a large amount of material and food saved from the reduction of waste. (ILKHA)
