Magnitude 4.0 aftershock jolts eastern Türkiye
A 4.0 magnitude quake struck the Yeşilyurt district of Türkiye’s eastern Malatya province on Wednesday, the country’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency announced on its website.
The earthquake occurred at around 16:58 TSI, with its epicenter at a latitude of 38.188 degrees north and a longitude of 38.175 degrees east, and at a depth of 7.01 km.
On February 6, magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes struck southern Türkiye and northern Syria.
The death toll in Turkey and Syria has passed 56,000, and many survivors are enduring near-freezing winter temperatures after having been left homeless by the earthquake in cities in both countries.
More than 20,000 aftershocks have occurred after the devastating earthquakes, according to AFAD. (ILKHA)
