Kazakhstan’s government headed by Alikhan Smailov resigns
The Government of Kazakhstan under the leadership of Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov has resigned before the beginning of the new session of the Parliament of the eighth convocation.
“In connection with the resignation of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan before the newly elected Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, I decree the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan to fulfill its duties until the approval of the new composition of the government,” said a decree signed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Following the outbreak of violent 2022 Kazakh unrest, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev appointed Smaiylov as the acting Prime Minister on 5 January 2022, in response to the resignation of his predecessor Askar Mamin and his cabinet. (ILKHA)
