Voters have been applying to the relevant district election boards since March 22 to sign in favor of presidential candidates that need at least 100,000 signatures to run at the election.

The head of Homeland Party, Muharrem İnce, applied to the High Election Board (YSK) on Tuesday to file his presidential candidacy application for the 2023 elections that will be held on May 14.

İnce announced that he had achieved to collect 100,000 signatures to run in the election.

“Thank you Türkiye. Thank you, beautiful people of the country. Thank you, my children. 100,000 signatures are OK. No complacency, CONTINUE to sign until Monday at 20:00,” İnce wrote on Twitter.

According to the Constitution, political parties that have received at least 5 percent of the votes in the last elections or at least 100,000 voters can nominate someone as a presidential candidate.

As the presidential candidate of the CHP in the 2018 Turkish presidential election, Muharrem Ince received just over 30 percent of the votes, placing second behind outright first-round winner Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, with 53 percent. (ILKHA)
