Death toll from Cyclone Freddy hits 499 in Malawi
The death toll from Tropical Cyclone Freddy in Malawi reached 499, authorities said on Tuesday.
The number of injuries has risen to 1,332 from 918 as reported, while 427 people are reported missing.
At least 192 of these deaths were reported in Blantyre, and at least 40 of whom were children according to Médecins Sans Frontières. There were also around 90 fatalities in Mulanje.
135 of them were in Mulanje as well. 180,000 people were displaced across the country and forced to evacuate their homes, with 500,000 affected in general.
More than 50,000 houses were damaged or destroyed in the disaster. (ILKHA)
