Five dead as migrant boat capsizes off southwestern Türkiye
At least five people were killed when a boat carrying irregular migrants capsized off the Didim district of Türkiye’s southwestern Aydın province.
Ten people, including a child, were rescued from the boat, with rescue efforts continuing to find the remaining missing.
The irregular migrants had been seeking to reach the Greek island of Kos from the Turkish resort of Didim but their boat ran into difficulty and the coastguard was mobilized following a tip-off.
Türkiye, which is already sheltering 3,5 million refugees from the Syrian civil war, has become a key transit point for migrants seeking a better life in Europe. (ILKHA)
