Türkiye’s religious authority releases weekly Friday sermon
The Religious Affairs Directorate released the weekly Friday sermon (khutbah) which will be delivered in all mosques across Turkey during Friday prayer.
The full text of the sermon titled “THE BELIEVER IS TRUSTING AND TRUSTWORTHY” is as follows:
Dear Muslims!
In the verse I have recited, our Lord Almighty (swt) states, “He is the One Who sent down serenity upon the hearts of the believers so that they may increase even more in their faith.”
In the hadith I have read, our beloved Prophet (saw) says, “The best of you is the one whose goodness is hoped for, and from whose evil people are safe.”
Dear Believers!
From the moment we are born, we all want to feel safe and secure. We want to be safe from evil, and be free from our worries and fears. We all strive to live peacefully in a safe environment. This is because the feeling of being safe is one of the greatest blessings that Allah the Almighty (swt) has bestowed upon us after faith.
Dear Muslims!
The only source of the feeling of being safe is Allah the Almighty. One of the beautiful names of our Almighty Lord (swt) is “al-Mu’min” (the Preserver of Safety). Allah (swt) is the infuser of peace and tranquility. He is the One, Who makes His servants live in safety and security. He is the One, Who most deserves to be trusted. He is the One, Who makes those who take refuge in Him safe from fear and anxiety.
Honorable Believers!
Every believer who believes in Allah (swt) is under His protection and guardianship. This is stated in the Holy Qur’an as follows:
وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللّٰهِۜ وَكَفٰى بِاللّٰهِ وَك۪يلًا “And put your trust in Allah. For Allah is sufficient as a Trustee of Affairs.”
As believers who wholeheartedly believe in this verse, we know that Allah the Almighty will never leave us desolate and helpless. Indeed, it is He, Who made the fire cool and harmless for the Prophet Ibrahim when he was thrown into it in the cause of tawhid. It is He, Who brought the Prophet Yusuf out of the well after he was thrown into it by his brothers and made him the sultan of Egypt. It is He, Who brought the Prophet Yunus from the inside of the fish’s belly to the shore of salvation, and Who made the sea a path for the Prophet Musa and made His might and mercy his companion. It is He, Who rescued the Messenger of Mercy, the Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (saw), from the trap of the polytheists and brought him safely to Madinah.
Dear Muslims!
The believer is a person of trust in word and deed. He is a fortress of faith who makes his brothers and sisters feel that they are safe. The believer is aware that he is responsible for everything and everyone to the extent of his power. We believe that faith entails trust. A believer is the one who trusts and is trusted. The universe is entrusted to human beings and human beings are entrusted to each other. In this regard, the Messenger of Allah (saw) says, “A Muslim is someone from whose hand and tongue other Muslims are safe. A believer is someone on whom people can rely regarding their lives and properties.” That is why it is a grave sin to act in a way that undermines trust and to attempt against another person’s life and property.
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
Let us continue to be a source of trust and peace in these days when we are trying to heal the wounds caused by the earthquakes we have suffered. Let us be a strong and safe harbor for each other in the face of difficulties and hardships. Let us provide relief to troubled hearts and joy to grieving hearts. May our minds and hearts be comforted by the compassion, mercy and affection we have for each other. Let us not forget that if we rely on and trust in Allah (swt), if we embrace the sense of reliability and dependence for our brothers and sisters, the grace and blessings of our Lord (swt) will be with us.
I would like to conclude this Friday’s khutbah with the following verse that expresses the trust of the Prophet (saw) in Allah (swt) during the most troubled moment of the hijrah: “While they both were in the cave, he reassured his companion, ‘Do not worry! Allah is certainly with us.’ So, Allah sent down His serenity upon the Prophet...” (ILKHA)
