Karavil: Orphans Foundation serves daily free hot meals to more than 20,000 earthquake-affected people in Kahramanmaraş
The head of the Orphans Foundation, Fikri Karavil, inspected soup kitchens set up by the foundation in Kahramanmaraş, the epicenter of the Feb. 6 quakes.
“Just after the earthquake that struck 11 provinces, we rushed to the earthquake areas under the coordination of the Hope Caravan from the first day. Today is the 26th day of the earthquake. We deliver hot meals to about 20 thousand earthquake victims three times a day in Kahramanmaraş. Here we also have a warehouse to meet people's needs. We have a tent for women for urgent needs. Materials about women are placed there. We are trying to help our brothers in all areas,” Karavil said.
“We expect the support of our people”
“We want to continue our humanitarian aid activities here in Ramadan as well. We ask all our people to support us. It's a long road, it takes a long process. Let's not forget our earthquake-stricken brothers here. They can provide food aid to people. We have five soup kitchens in total, and we distribute meals there. Our mobile teams distribute aid to districts and villages. May Allah bless all donors. May Allah never let us experience such pain again. Inshallah, with the help of our Lord, we will all stand up together,” he added.
A 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria in the early hours of the morning on February 6.
There were at least 45,089 deaths and over 108, 000 people were injured across the ten most affected provinces in Turkey, including some casualties also in adjacent Elazığ and Batman provinces.
At least 13.5 million people and 4 million buildings have been affected. Thousands were trapped under rubble when buildings collapsed.
The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change conducted damage inspections for 763,000 buildings; at least 41,791 buildings in 10 Turkish provinces were heavily damaged or destroyed, leaving about 150,000 people homeless.
Immediately after the earthquake, Hope Caravan Foundation, European Orphan Hand, Orphans Foundation, and IHO EBRAR launched a humanitarian aid campaign to aid the earthquake-stricken people. (ILKHA)
