Türkiye's unemployment rises by 0.2 in Q4
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realized as 10.2%, the Turkish Statistical Institute said in a statement on Friday.
Seasonally adjusted unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over increased by 148 thousand to 3 million 583 thousand persons in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate occurred as 10.2% with 0.2 percentage point increase. The unemployment rate was estimated 8.5% for men and 13.6% for women.
Seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 48.4%
The number of seasonally adjusted employed persons increased by 565 thousand to 31 million 460 thousand persons in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter. Seasonally adjusted employment rate occurred as 48.4% with 0.7 percentage point increase. In addition, this rate was 65.8% for men, 31.3% for women.
Seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate realized as 53.9%
The seasonally adjusted labor force increased by 714 thousand persons to 35 million 43 thousand persons in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter and the seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate was 53.9% with 0.9 percentage point increase. Labor force participation rate was estimated 71.9% for men and 36.2% for women.
Seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate was 19.2%
Seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 19.2% with 0.5 percentage point increase compared to the previous quarter. The unemployment in this age group estimated as 15.8% for men and 25.5% for women.
56.8% of seasonally adjusted employment was in the services sector
In the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter, the number of seasonally adjusted agricultural employment increased by 62 thousand persons, industry increased by 90 thousand persons, construction increased by 57 thousand persons and services increased by 356 thousand persons. According to the distribution of employment by sector; 15.7% was employed in agriculture, 21.4% was employed in industry, 6.1% was employed in construction and 56.8% was employed in services.
Seasonally and calendar-adjusted average weekly actual working hours was 44.3
Seasonally and calendar-adjusted average weekly actual working hours of persons at work during the reference period increased by 0.7 hours and estimated 44.3 hours compared to the previous quarter in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Seasonally adjusted composite measure of labor underutilization rate realized as 20.8%
The rate of composite measure of labor underutilization consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force and unemployment was 20.8% with decrease of 0.1 percentage points in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter.
While combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment realized as 14.5%, combined rate of unemployment and potential labor force realized as 16.9%. (ILKHA)
